Nice bronco, Can't think of a better truck to handle the Alaskan terrain. Just curious about the idle proble on an incline, Is the truck carbuerated? If it is than if the incline is steep enough the motor will stall.
Well it doesn't have to be much incline at all. It is carbuerated. The guy I bought it from told me it does need a choke thermostat. Which Im going to order on payday. It does have vaccum issues, so I bought a chilton manual just for now, im looking for the dealer manual on ebay. Does anyone have a digital version by chance for a 1984?
Other than that ive stuck a window roller upper in it. First priority is the emissions, unless I can get it registered in Wasilla, which does not require emissions. I know a few people who do this and actually live on fort richardson.
I just fired it up after about 2 days of not moving, and that bronco was NOT happy about it at 0 degrees haha. I had to throttle it at about 1000 to 1200 rpm for about 10 minutes to get it warm enough to get in gear without giving up. My room mate just put his jetta in a ditch, so I got to try the wench out. Snatched his jetta out quick and easy.
A couple spooky problems came up when i was getting it fired up. This process seems to be almost like some kind or religious ritual at this point. I havent exactly mastered it yet. First there seemed to be no power to the dash, then it came and went a little each time i turned the key. Im thinking the ignition switch in the column may need working on but im not sure. Luckily two guys in my platoon have "partial" electrical engineering degrees.
Then as I was pumping the throttle befor turning the key the pedal just fell limp. So I jumped under the hood to make sure that the throttle wasn't actually engaged wide open. Which it wasn't to my relief. But the pedal was just limp, as i was playing with it it just came back to life on its own. Not sure what thats about. Fell off the front bumper into about 3 feet or snow.
Ive been trying to drive it as little as possible, the auto crafts shop on post here isn't open till thursday. Wich i can't wait to go check out its a nicer facility than the Goodyear shop I worked at straight out of highschool. I was extremely impressed when i went and did a quick tour. So Im going to go in there try to identify what all I have, I don't think the carb is OEM and see what i can do. They also have guys in the shop to help you diagnose stuff.
By the way thanks everyone for the complements. It was a great deal especially for around here. Its pretty much what Ive always wanted.
