Hey all I was thinking about a new toy. For some reason a 79 bronco custom is calling my name. It's an automatic that's had the top removed and a rear window put in to make it a very short bed pickup. Took it for a spin, seems to run well, shifts a bit rough but nothing horrid, starts well, not much noise, idles smooth as silk. The owner wants 1600 for it. Opinions on this?

What kind of oil pressure did it have?

How many miles?

Stock drivetrain?

Anything rebuilt or changed on the drivetrain?

Any modifications on the engine?

Though I am not thrilled with the conversion to a short bead truck, but I can somewhat understand why he did it. It would be neat if someone made a sealable back panel for the FSBs, though I'd rather have a soft top.

Good luck and welcome to the Zone >

no work done, I took it for a test drive again, no fan, no blinker, oil and radiator leak and he won't go below 1700, LOTS of body rust. So I went out and got a 79 blazer in far better condition for a person for 850. May have some leaks, but drives well, less power but sounds nice. I'm probably going to be kicked from the forum now. Lol.

probably the right decision on passing 1700 for a rusted bronco, but a blazer? oh well, you'll like the short whel base and removable top for a toy. I have always loved my broncos and (I must admit) have even looked at a blazer or two.

got this one for 2650

Great looking bronco. It looks like there are very few k5 blazer forums to really latch onto. But the 79 bronco was just so overpriced. I got the blazer for 850, runs well looks like there are a few issues the bad, oil guage is maxed out could be sending unit, overfilled, or just broken guage..that's an important one, and no radio. Some small stuff, fabric that's torn, seat movement bar broken, rear seat not bolted in, door pannels loose, and some fabric on the roof is loose. Few missing caps and covers on stuff. The good, runs with better pickup than my 91 suburban. Think I can hang around a bit and pose some questions? Or does anyone know of a forum similar to this for k5s?

It sounds like you made a better choice by getting the blazer. I got my bronco custom with a rebuilt motor that only had 15,000 miles on it for $800. Everything else was comeptely stock. It had rust on the wheel wells but a little fiberglass and bondo took care of that. I too have always loved my broncos I had an 85 but she died on me, but before I got the 79 I looked at a couple blazers but decided against it. Have fun with your new toy!
