Hi everyone, I am new and need some major help!!

I have an 88 5.0 full size bronco with problems.

I have power at the fuel pump but when turning the key all i hear is the series of clicks, no fuel pump.... I replaced the relay, checked the inertia switch, coils etc. eyc. etc.

then in searching your posts i found a group of people who had the same problems.

posts were dated feb. 4,04 and titled fuel pump STILL, STILL CAN'T GET IT GOING.

abd dec 13,04 no power to fuel pump.

If anyone can tell me how they fixed their problem or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.. Testing each wire in and under this beast will make me crazy!!!!!

Oh yeah I did get the truck to fire up once after all this happened but i think that was because i was ****** and was tugging and banging on things, although what exactly i don't remember

Thanks in advance

You have two fuel pumps on that truck, a low pressure pump in the tank and a high pressure one on the frame about 1/2 way between the engine and the tank.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but sorry if testing will make you crazy, but that is what you have to do. No one can find your problem over the internet. All we can do is give you some suggestions to help you trouble shoot. You need to take a multimeter and check for 12V at the connections to the pumps. First try at the connections to the inertia switch. That switch has been known to fail internally. If that is good move back tothe connections to the fuel pumps. If you find 12V at the connections, then do a continuity check for ground at each connector, (that would be the black wire). If you have 12V and a good ground then your pump/s are bad and need replacement. If you don't have 12V or a good ground you have to troubleshoot that problem. We can't do that for you.

Good luck,

I did not check the voltage at the pumps, because i had it up and running, the inertia switch is gone, I got rid of it. Something is stopping power between my fuel pump relay and my pumps, so i believe it has an open circuit somewhere.

I didn't mean to sound like an idiot, it was early and hadn't had enough coffee yet...

I just wondered if anyone had found a specific problem that linked it all.

most of my wires are extremely faded so i am systematically checking them because i can't tell all their "true" colors.

Unfortunately, there are too many possible failure points that give the same symptom. So what caused it for one vehicle is not necessarily what causes it for another. I would restore the inertia switch with a new one. It is a safety device to cut out the pumps in the event of an accident to prevent pumping fuel on hat engine parts.

the wire color doesn't change from year to year so strip back a little of the tape and look at it. The 12V wire to the pumps is pink with a black hash marking on it. The yellow with white stripe wire at the tank is for the gauge.

Good luck,

:)>-
