well i havent posted before but ive read alot here. i have the stock alternator in my 90 bronco, and i think its only 75 amps or so. my streo system draws all of its power and i definently need more. any ideas of where i can get a decently priced high out put alternator, and i weither or not i would have to do much fabricating or not? and does anyone know if this is really my only option? p.s. i have a rockford fosgate p5002 amp in right now and am concidering adding one or two more to push my 3 l7s if i can get my power situation under control.

thx in advance

You can get Powermaster 140 amp alternators from Summit Racing. The Powermaster one runs about 200 bucks, Summit also makes a 100 amp one that runs about 130 bucks. Id get the Powermaster one, they make good stuff and ive never seen one of there alternators go out.

what motor is in your bronco? im going to guess 5.0. i did a quick search at advance autos website and they have a bosch 100amp for $150. you can make a big difference by the cable size and connector quality. your stock setup might have enough power for your equipment but corroded connectors or too small a wire going to your amp could be causing an issue. How do you know your pulling to much? who wired it?

a 100amp alternator will offer you another 300watts roughly. i looked up your amp online and max power usage is 500watts depending on what your driving. what are your subs rated at?

170 amp starters

they also have 200 amp one wire alts if you feel like taking the effort to make it work

ive got the 170 amp in my truck, works great, first one I received got damaged in shipping, (United Parcel Smashers), and I had to drill out the threads where the bolt was supposed to go all the way through, but other than that it was cake.

i have only a 4.9L engine... :/ but i do have a capacitor that is only 1 farad and it didnt seem to do too much when i put it in. my subs peak at 1200 watts and rms at around 600 at two ohms, and i have three subs, so should be rmsing at like 1800 watts. also what have to be done to make a 200 watt alternator work?

thx guys

200 amps are expencive as ****, i would get a Powermaster 140 amp and that should be all you need. Also get a powerful battery, i have a Everstart Maxx that i got at walmart with 875 crankin amps. It will play forever with out goin dead, plus you get a 3 year warranty with it so the first time it f*cks up take it back.

Put a heavier gauge wire from the power out of altenator to your battery. And make sure you have a very good ground from your battery to your engine then to the chassis. This will make a world of difference in your stock charging system.I have an Infinity 1211a (1300wattsrms) and a 7541a (111watts rms x 4) a dry cell battery in the back and my lights barely dim.

I used to have that walmart battery There o.k. for like a year then your usually looking for you recipt to exchange on warrentty when powering a high power system. I have the best luck with Interstate batteries They last two or three years and seem to have more umf.

hmm.. that sounds like a good idea, but how would i go about replacing the wimpy wire coming from the alternator? do they sell the same harness with thicker wires, or would i have to rig something up?

thx

capaciter, capaciter, capaciter. You can get them from Circuit City for around $100.00. They recommend a capaciter when you have more than 1 amp.

You can buy a kit from some website I forget were i seen it but its cheaper to just buy like 4 ft of 4 gauge or I used 0/1 gauge wire and some ends and route and zip tie it yourself. I just figured out how much wire i needed ,how big the ends would be that i needed, solderd and crimped them on good and bolted it in.

This fixed the light dimming problem mostly they still dimmed when the heat or ac was on high so i tried a 1 farid cap it did nothing. Then i tried a 5 farid cap it was alittle better than I sold it and bought the drycell now i never dim even with the heat on high and the power inverter charging the laptop.

Look on the car audio websites like the12volt.com/forums its a website for car audio and security installers. This upgrade I'm telling you about is part of what they call upgrading the big 3.

How bad does the roof flex lol. Mine is untollerable when i crank some songs. This spring im gonna have to figure out how to stiffen it up alittle I'll post when i figure that out.
