I bougt a 1977 Bronco some 4-5 weeks ago and the owner told me it had the original 302, but when i pulled the intake manifold of today it said 289 on the block.

According to wildhorses4x4.com, they stopped selling the Bronco with 289 in 1969 "In 1969, the 289 was replaced with the 302 V8, which remained the engine of choice until Ford discontinued production of the early Bronco"

Could it be that the engine is 302????

He could have changed engines, and thought it was a 302.

302 & 289 are basically the same block. To look at them, an average joe will mistake the two so it could be a 302 with a 289 intake. Most, if not all, of the parts are interchangable.

All the above info is correct, '65 and up 289 and 68- 82 302 engines are interchangeable.

They use the same accessories and brackets, intakes etc....

The only way to be absolutely sure about what displacement/ year your engine is, will be to pull the starter, there is a casting number on the engine block. It runs parallel to the oil pan rail. A 289 casting code should read;

Any of these C5AE, C5OE, C6AE. A 302 should read, C8OE, C8TE. later codes for the 302 then begin with the letter "D"

Ford casting codes begin with a letter designating the decade, B is 1950, C is 1960, D is 1970 etc... the second digit is the year of the design of the casting.

So, C6OE would designate a part built in the 60's and designed for use in '66.

Is this the same truck that you were asking about the dash switches on??

Does your Bronco have fuel doors or just fuel tank caps?

My Bronco has fuel doors so it has to be 1977??

About the 289??? on the top of the engine it said 289, but i have to take a

Definatly a 77, it was the only year for fuel doors. Check the block code like STLKIKN said, that will guarantee you the knowledge of the block.
