A couple of months ago we had a garage fire. Inside was my 77 Bronco, it was in good condition, had some body dings and needed new tires other than that it was good to go. Well the insurance tells us that we are up S(*& Creek without a paddle because it was registered and had a Liability policy on it, the homeowners policy doesn't cover it even though it was in the home. My wife and I had decided to keep it registered with a small policy because in AZ if you don't have it registered for a long time they charge you a fee when you do decide to make it road worthy and to have it registered you have to have insurance, at a minimum liability. My advice to you guys is to make sure your property, even if in a condition of being restored, is properly covered and double check that your are covered by specific events such as fires. An insurance guy will tell you that you are covered but don't trust them, ask specific questions to know the truth. I will stay on the forum for a while if you have questions. Don't know if the wife and I will replace what we lost. The one we had was special, it was my grandparents, then my fathers, then mine. The plan was to pass it on to my boys. It had served us well through many hunts and camping trips. You never expect the bad things to happen.100_0475_0001.JPGDSCN1787.JPGFire Pics 016.JPG

Best of wishes to you all. Keep the bronco alive.

Sorry to hear about your loss. That really sucks. On a brighter note, check your homeowner's policy for debris removal, you might be able to get some money from that portion of the policy to recoup some costs of getting it back to where it was. I'm a contractor that does fire & water restoration on homes and you pretty much are screwed as far as getting any value from any part of your policy. BUT, like I said, most policies have a few hidden clauses in them to help with getting back what you have. The other thing to do is to make sure you itemize everything that was burned in the garage, (everything from tools to shop rags, get it in your list) because you are allowed to get back what was there. A good insurance contractor will help you out to get as much as you can without doing any damage to credibility, yours or theirs. If you have questions, by all means, shoot me a pm and I can offer you some advice if you want it.
