i'm in the market for a limited slip or locker for my truck. i've found some pretty cheap ones on ebay but i'm not entirely fermiliar with them and dont really know what i should watch out for. i've seen some new and used and rebuilt. and how can i make sure the one i decide on would fit my truck i'm pretty sure i've got the basic 8.8 rearend set up but not sure of any other specifics.

im guessing you mean mini-spool or locker. If you want a limited slip just grab a rear end from the junk yard. New clutch kit will run you a little over $100 from the dealer and a few hours of your time(soak the plates overnight first). the LS 8.8's came in f150s and broncos. they also came in ranger/explorer, mustangs, etc. I dont know about the interchangability between the housings though.

I dont know that you can find a bad mini spool or locker, just stick with the big names and you will be fine. arb, warn etc...

yea just anything to keep both back wheels spinnin. according to my door jam my truck should've came factory with a limited slip "posi" rear end but when i lifted both back wheels off the ground and spun one side the other side turned the oposite way. which i've learned from an earlier thread that means i've got an open diff.

well the clutches need a bit to grab. try doing that again and take one wheel and move it left-right a bunch of times fast and see if the other side grabs and turns the same direction. The rear end acts like an open diff until one side starts over-revving the other side by a lot.

hmm, i'll have to try that. i've never had a problem off road yet as far as getting stuck its always done fine but every time i go i push it a little harder and harder. if it turns out i do have a factory limited slip and its failed or broken or not working for what ever reason is it posible to fix it or not.

if the last set of clutch packs werent soaked before they were put in, it is possible that a few of them stuck. This wears out only one clutch disk. It is possible to replace them. The kit comes with the friction and steel plates. I know mustang guys and turbo bird guys switch up the number of plates to get more preload on them to engage quicker. They typically use the kit plates and a few left overs from the old(cause they never wear evenly). I think there was a good explanation on rangerstation.com.
