Did you disconnect the shift linkage when you did the engine swap. If so, did you go thru the linkage adjustment proceedure when you rehooked it up?

We gave you two...

1. Maybe the shift linkage needs to be re-adjusted. May not be dropping into the 3rd gear indent.

2.Did you disconnect the shift linkage when you did the engine swap. If so, did you go thru the linkage adjustment proceedure when you rehooked it up?

---Was this a problem prior..? you said it was fine B/4 the eng. swap. ---

this happened to me on a chevy but double check that your vacuum hose from your engine to transmission modulator is not leaking. also make sure your engine is producing enough vacuum at idle.

yes checkl the vacum lines from engine to modulator. i thought changing all the fuild and filter at first but that does sound like a modulator problem.

i really don't remember what happens when the modulator isn't working properly. but i do know it won't shift in to one of the gears. i would check that stuff before you dismiss it. or don't check it.
