Arrgh, just got back from an unproductive trip to the boneyard. I'm looking for an inspection plate for my AOD. My 88' didn't have one on it and neither did the replacement I picked up last month. There weren't a lot of candiiates there and none of the Broncos or F-trucks I found had AOD's. Anyone know what else this was in ? Was it used in the Explorers or any of the cars ? I figure it had to be. If so I'm assuming I need to find something around the same year that has the OD-D-1 shift indicator right ? The OD-2-1 is an E4OD isn't it ?

what are the chances that this is the same on the 86? i have an aod thats probably got the inspection plate still on it but the bell housing is cracked. i'm new to this and all but isent the inspection plate the thin half round plate that bolts to the front of the trans? if so i may have one.

Yup, that's exactly what it is. IT's the small plate @ the bottom of the transmission that you remove to inspect the flywheel, drain the torque converter or remove the tocque converter to flywheel nuts. I actually lucked out. I went back later in the day and scored the one off the truck with the OD-2-1 shift pattern figuring that even if it wasn't exactly what I needed I could maybe redrill the holes & make it work. Turns out that it fits both the transmission & that shield thingie that goes between the block & tranny. So, I'm not sure what trans that truck had but it was at least *related* to the AOD since they shared a bellhousing
