I have a 73, all parts for the front end are brand new. I have a 4" suspention lift with no body lift, single shock, single stablizer. There is about 2 inches of play in the steering wheel(can this be adjusted). The truck does not pull to any particular side but I feel like im constantly steering it to keep it on the road. I have not had it professionally alligned because it does not pull. what can I do to get a more modern steering feel, or just to make the truck safe at high speeds. any help would be great.

i think you should look into getting a new or rebuilt steering box, they tend to wear out and grant play after so many years of use

Have you checked the steering shaft for a worn or broken rag joint?

Is your track bar tight, do you have a track bar drop/ lift bracket that may have come loose?

Is your box loose on the frame, are there any cracks in the frame around the boxes mounting points?

and one quick one that STLKIKN left out, see if you can tighten the steering box adjustment *****. There is a nut with a flat head ***** on the top of the box. Loosen the nut about 1/4 turn and tighten the ***** about 1/8 - 1/4 turn then tighten that keeper nut back down. See if that helps out.

Yeah, I usually leave that one as a last resort....

Remember that you CAN overtighten the adjuster... if you adjust it, go for a quick drive after, if the steering does not self centre coming out of a corner, then it is too tight. But as outlined by S bolt... only tighten it 1/8 of a turn at a time....

this will lessen the chances of over tightening the box.
