I was given a 1989 ford bronco from my wifes bro. It has been sitting in tjhe driveway for about two months and now it wont start. It started a couple weeks ago but now it wont. It turns over, its getting a spark but there is no fuel pressure at the fuel rail. There is also no fuel pump noise. It statrted right up last time but today when I have people coming to look at it, nothing. I'm tryting to sell it but I need to get it running first. Anyone have any suggestions? I am totally new to broncos and fords in general so I'm kinda lost. Someone please help me out.

I here ya vdub...mine is doing the same thing, but mine smells like it is flooding out. Then it takes about 45 minutes to get it started again!!!!!

I've narrowed it down to either fuel pumps, fuel filter, or fuel pressure regulator. The more I try to do something the more ****** off I get, especially since I'm not really knowledgeable in fuel injection.

Well I just got back from the elementary school and decided to try a "trick" that a former ford shop mechanic told me to do...

He told me that when they would get fuel pump related issues coming into the shop they would take a hammer and tap the area under the pump (in-tank pumps) to get it to work again, so I walked back up to the school and took a hammer and tapped the body of the high-pressure pump (inside left frame rail) and when I went to start the truck...walaa, it started right up, so I drove back to the house.

So now I think I'm going to just start replacing the compenants of the fuel system starting with that pump and filter.

Hope this might help

That is the case with many electric motors when they start to go bad, it hangs up, needs to be tapped to get going, or the connection is bad and tapping on it reconnects it. if you tap on it and it works again, then that component should be replaced/rebuilt, because it will only get worse.

I'll try that in the morning, I hope it works cause I have 6 people that want to come look at it. If that doesn't help how difficult is it to replace the fuel pump in one of these things?

Try the fuel pump regulators before you change the pump. An '89 has two fuel pumps and two regulators.

where are the regulators and the fuel pumps located? I know that one is an in-tank pump. What about the other? And what about relays?

The relays are right behind your air filter box. I think one is green and ones Brown. The second fuel pump is on the frame rail way up towards the front, Right beside the front driveshaft, so close my driveshaft ate through my fuel pump power wire.

My relays just went about two weeks ago, I was convinced that it was the fuel pumps. I have an '89 pick-up so I figured what the heck I'll try the relays, sure enough thats all it was

I tried banging on the pump and nothing. Then I manually jumped the circuit on both relays and the pump went on and got fuel to the motor, both relays the same thing. Does that mean the realys are shot and need to be replaced? And how much do they cost approximatly?

I would replace the fuel line to the rail and the fuel pump as well

Then run some fuel injector d.eaner in the gas NOT THE CHEEP STUFF either.

Put some Premium gas in and watch the motor come alive. You might not want to sell it ... :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
