Let me start by saying that my gauge went out. so I've been going by milage. Now the tank acts as if it is full when I try to put gas in it. Is the float stuck or what? can someone please help!

Welcome to Bronco Zone!!! There is a plastic vent tube inside the filler neck hose that can get kinked or pinched, and it will make filling the tank very hard to do with some pumps. Try to keep the nozzle from the gas pump as far out as you can to keep the check valve from constantly tripping and shutting off the nozzle. While all nozzles have the check valve, the ones with a plastic cover seem to be worse. you'll have to slow down the flow some, too. Maybe someone knows where to get a new vent tube, I haven't found it anywhere, JSM84

As for the gauge not working, it's often the sending unit inside the gas tank causing the problem, as the float will break apart over time. The carbed models from 80-86 just have the sending unit, while EFI models in 87-up have the s.u. and fuel pump together, costing a bit more. Either way, it takes dropping the tank and replacing the sending unit.

That seems to be a common problem. Mine has the same problem. The last time I took the neck apart and found that the vent tube had slipped down a bit. I repositioned the tuber reinstalled it but it is starting to happen again. Since it is still tolerable and filling is slow (33 gallon tank), I haven't taken the time to check it again.

You can do this http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12329 If you are not good at controlling a saw, do it when the tank is down.

Good luck,

:)>-

isnt there an external line from the tank you can use to vent? I replaced the tank in my 85 with one from what i was told was an 87 and it has a 1/2" rubber line that was capped coming out of the inlet of the tank. I had the same issue with mine taking forever to fill up. I was thinking that opening that port and running the hose back up to the filler area would let the tank vent.

just an idea.

Ha... you guys are good!

I read the post thinking that each time the driver put gas in, he/she put in more than was used (not knowing how much was used) and eventually was driving with a full tank! I was thinking... that's not such a bad problem to have. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Definitely a better problem than... my truck stopped running when my tank was empty.

Hope you guys are enjoying the weekend.
