Since I started putting my '95 Bronco in the garage this winter, I started having the smell of gas when I go out in the morning. I don't see any obvious leaks or signs of gas on the floor. Any tips on common places to look?

Thanks,

Doc

The gas tank can rust and will leak into the skid plate. Only way to checkthat is to pull the skid plate. When you drop it, the tank will come down, too, and hang by the lines and filler hose. I would check it with the least amount of gas in the tank. My 78 leaks throughh the filler hose, but it's noticeable when pouring gas in it, JSM84

Try to narrow down the possibilities. You say it smells in the morning when you come in & see no obvious leaks. Some wkend when you have the time try going out & putting the key in and turning it to the ON position, with the idea being to fire up the fuel pump & pressurize the line. Let it sit that way for an hour or so & then come back & check to see if *now* you have a pddle or noticable leak somewhere. It may be that there's a small leak in the line that isn't as noticable when you're driving & the airflow blows it back & away. With the line pressurized any leaks should reveal themselvs within an hour or two. After it's been sitting with line pressure I'd try to localize the odor and see if you can at least figure if it's coming from the front or rear to help narrow the search. You could have a leak in the fuel rail or any of the injectors or as JSM suggested it could very well be in the tank itself or the plumbing right there at the tank. Try to swipe a rag across the skidplate & see if you can pickup a fuel odor from it. If you feel fairly certain it's coming from the back end then yup, like JSM said then next step would be to drop the tank and do a more thourough inspection. 13yrs is plenty enough time for corrosion to have set in somewhere in the tank, connectors, plumbing, etc, etc. If you need any help or suggestions as far as dropping the tank there are plenty of guys here willing to help out.

Hey BrocoBill78

That was a great suggestion!

I guess after he's done he can go out to the garage for a beer, but NOT for a cigarette eh?

Oh, and BTW, I am hopeing the Giants win, but wouldn't be too upset if it was to the Pats, there really isn't a finer team.

Ahhh, everyone wants to see a Titan fall :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> It's like NASCAR fans who watch just to see spectacular crashes. I was there in the stands back when Grogan threw the ball & I endured the 85' Bears and going to games with the local radio stations parked in front of the stadium passing out brown paper bags with eye-holes cut in them for the faithfull to wear so nobody would recognize us on TV. I lost count of how many times Tony Eason ate the ball and plotted with many others to **** Pete Carroll. I can't help but to wave the flag now that their time is at hand. Come 10PM Sunday night I'll be the guy standing on out on his front lawn with a 4' Roman Candle poking out of his fly. The 72' Dolphins have had their LAST champagne toast.
