Fuel vapor lines EB

On the 73 bronco, there is a vapor condensation/collection tank in the rear quarter panel right behind the drivers seat.  The fuel selector valve has 6 connections and mine was bad.  I bought a replacement from Tom's and it only has three connections.  My plan is to remove all of the vapor lines out of the system.  What is the risk with doing this?  Should I re-route to better location?  Does everything need to route back thru the selector valve?

All the rigs I've had, or seen.., none had a functioning vapor collection system working, or even there. 

That's not to say there isn't some out there still functioning as designed.

What is the risk with doing this?

None really, however, some states smog laws may be a bit picky.

Should I re-route to better location?

One could build their own..., any "good" affect is pretty slight.

Does everything need to route back thru the selector valve?"

Check me on this but I believe all the new valves are two in.., one out port.

If you need to build a collection system, it is the black system in the bottom left of this diagram.  A slight modification would make it work on your truck. 

If you don't use it, don't plug the vapor lines.  They serve to equaiize the tank pressure, especially when the truck is setting out in the hot sun where the tanks can become over pressurized due to the expansion of the fuel.  That is why older vehicls had a pressure relief valve in the gas cap. 

Personally, I would rebuild the vapor system, it is more than just a pollution control device.

I am going to take this and run.....  I am going to pull, but save all of my lines.  I really don't like the fact that that collection unit is in the cab...  I may have to re-install parts later, but once the vehicle goes past 20 years it is exempt from emissions here in Oregon...  Damn, these projects are expensive....  I am getting to know the guys over at Tom's pretty well $-)

The system only allows the fumes to go into the carb when the engine initiallt starts to clear the fumes in the canisters. After that the port is shut off so the engine doesn't **** fuel through the vent line.  I probably have the components in my garage, but it's your call.  You may be able to get a Cap that has a built in relief valve. 

If you hear a hiss when the gas cap is removed you need some sort of relief system.  You may not find that right off the bat.
