I accidently bought a new car for my wife about 6 weeks ago, and parked my 74 so I "could work on it" and started driving her van. I went out to start the Bronco last week and it wouldn't fire. No gas smell or "squirty-sound" from the carb. I poured about a tablespoon full of gas down the throat of the carb and it started right up. until it quit. I did this 2 more times and it ran good and started again several times later that day. (I checked the fuel level and tank selector first..) Several days later, I went out and cranked it again and it fired, but died (as soon as it drained the carb, I think). I repeated the spoon feeding and it again ran. I pulled the line to the carb off the pump and it shot gas out like it was 'sposed to. I have never heard of a fuel pump loosing its prime, but it appears that is what may be happening. Either that or it is seeing me drive a Chevy Astro to work and is getting depressed. I really wanted to "work" on major things like brakes and wiring, not a fuel pump. Any other thoughts?

It sounds like your fuel pump is shot. Not a big problem though, cause they take about 15 minutes and $15 out of your life. You might also check the fuel filter that is on the carb. Those can get clogged and then you get the problem that you have now as well. So try the filter first and if that doesnt work, swap in a new pump.
