Greetings All!

New to the Early Bronco's, Had a 66 about 10 years ago, but it was restored and I never had to work on it.

Since then, sold Bronco to start family, and finally bought another rig a week ago (1968 1/2 cab). First problem I have is that it appears to be "stuck" in 4 wheel drive. Is this a problem with my transfer case or a hub that is not fully disengaging?

Sounds to me like its a transfer case problem unless the hubs are manual. If the hubs are manual then leavin gthem in the on position can cause problems but not to the point of keeping the 4wd ingaged just burning the wheel bearings out. So my diagnosis is that its the transfer case.

I second that, if you can't get the shift lever out, it has something to do with the linkage or the x-fer

I agree, however the shift lever does move between 4L,4H, 2H. Has manual hubs, and one of them will not turn. Unsure if the front is actually pulling, but the driveline is spinning all the way to the transfer case.

Naw,

I think you have a stuck hub.

Get the weight off front wheels (shifter is moving so put in "neutral") & spin the wheels......should spin seperate of ea. other.

Hold on to dr. shaft so it won't spin.

If it still turns...that one hub is locked-in.

Clean the hubs & good to go.

Some times rocking the truck back & forth (in gear) will allow one to move the hub lock-out ***.

Lastly, there could be posi or locker in the front if after all is said & done, the wheels won't spin seperately.
