Ok, so Im getting the SROD tranny rebuilt. So here's my question, what type of fluid should I put into it? SAE 85W/90 or atf? As far as I know, it has atf in it now. The transfer case is gonna be flushed and get atf, and the front dana 44 just gets gear oil right? I was also wondering, its time for the first oil change since her rebuild, when is a good time, if it is needed, to switch to synthetic oil? I've been told its soe much better. Any experience with it?

I prefer the ATF, Better lubrication properties, Also easier to shift. As for the second question, weve had good luck putting on 10-12,000 miles before switching to syn type lubes as the rings tend to seat better with organic oils. Just passed the 100,000 mile mark on my 514ci, and no problems. Ain't seen a built 454 or a 440 last anywhere near that!
