I'm looking for a fastback softtop for my 88 and wanted to know if soft-tops.com was the only current vendor. I had one on one of my 78's that was just a plain canvas softtop w/o the window but can't for the life or me remember who I got it from. If soft-tops.com IS the only player I was wondering if anyone here could tell me how the sailcloth top compares to the vinyl. I've not seen vinyl tops before and didn't know how durable or rugged they are. Also, is there an alternative to the wing-nut design ? From what I've read in the archive posts the wing-nuts have to be removed before the hardtop can be put back on, the previous softtop just had the rail up on the roof and snaps around the perimeter, no problems putting the hardtop back on. I'm in southern Fla and with all the boat guys around here I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard to find someone to make me a one-off but that always gets expensive but I'm thinking it may not be too bad especially if it means the two tops are compatable and I don't have to ***** around with installing & removing hardware every time I switch tops.

I was also wondering if anyone knew of a kit for a bikini top. I read the recent posts about the home-made top and have been thinking that with a rear roll-bar it wouldn't be too hard to fabricate or commission something similar fairly cheap or maybe even adapt one from a Jeep or early Bronco but I haven't made any measurements yet, figured I'd ask first and see if anyone else had gone this route before I started to reinvent the wheel. I thought all I'd really need would be the roof rail, I should be able to get a boat shop to sew me a small top with the plastic rod sewn into the leading edge of the canvas & some straps on the rear to run down along the roll-bar uprights. Any help with this will be appreciated.

Sorry, but there are no other vendors making softtops for the Bronco. One of the members here made his own bikin-top, try to find his post from a couple months ago, JSM84

I will keep an eye peeled for you! I always put in "Bronco Soft top craigslist" or "...ebay" in the Google bar every day at least.

I have a new aluminum frame from a STC snap top that I did not use when I installed my soft top you are welcome to it. It is intensive on the drilling into the body even the tailgate (about 50 new spots for rust to set up house).

update: here is one on ebay

Thanks for the Ebay lead, sure enough though I'm heading out for the airport in a couple hours and won't be home for a week. I just don't have the time right now to open an account & square things w/Ebay (long story but Ebay & I haven't seen eye to eye for years ever since they hosed me on an expensive item I sold. See PayPalSucks.com for similar stories). Thanks for the offer & I'll give you a shout about that support bar when I get home.

Thanks for the info guys, I had been hoping there were some alternatives out there but I guess not.

Can anyone tell me how the Sailcloth compares to the Vinyl ? Instinct tells me to avoid the Vinyl top but not having seen one for myself I hate to dismiss what might be a cheaper option, but on the other hand I guess $40 isn't that big a deal in the overall scheme of building a truck, it's just that those little $20 & $40 differences have a way of adding up over the course of a build.

I just ordered a part from broncgraveyard.com and they sent a catalog with the part. In the back of the catalog was an ad for a tonneau style soft top they'll be selling soon. I believe it will be made by broncograveyard. Maybe get ahold of them for details. They didn't list a price or anything, but the picture looked pretty sweet.
