how important is it to keep the exhaust resignators? im getting rid of my cat amd putting on a flowmaster40. i was going to put it on right after the Y pipe like my 93 had but my 96 has the pipes from the manifold going individually into the resignator. the pipe from the res. to the cat. is very strange. changes od and shape a lot. thought about making a y pipe and ditching the resignator

It's not a resignator it's more or less a pre-cat. As far as your muffler goes the rule of thumb is to put it as far away from the motor as possible, I.E. the rearend or back of the car. I'm not sure as to the reason thats just the rule. I would just get a new y-pipe made and ditch the pre-cat, then a high flow in place of the stock cat and a 40 at the rearend, thats what I did on my first bronco and it sounded great, and don't get greedy on pipe diameter, 2.5 all the way is fine.
