exhaust question

On a 1996 351/ 5.8 If I remove the Catalatic convertor

WILL I GAIN ANY POWER? OR MILEAGE? OR WILL IT ***** SOMETHING UP??????????

I live in the upermidwest where emission controls is not a big issue

it is said you will gain some HP, im not sure about mileage, if any..not much, but i took mine off because it makes it louder and flow better, shouldnt mess anything up, maybe the check engine light but i doubt it, all thats will happen is you will smell the exhaust more
