I busted my exhaust the other day offroading. Nothing major, just now the tube that goes through my muffler (stock, as far as I know) is now unwelded to the muffler itself, so it dangles and slides and squeaks. Now, it sounds fine, it's not a danger to anyone behind me, it's still held up and everything. My question is, if I decide to do away with all this exhaust and get true dual pipes, maybe 2 1/2 and straight back, would I only need to change the y-pipe when I go to drop in my 351w? If so, I could just weld a temperary bead after I drop the motor in till I can get proffesional's to do it up right. I don't want to spend like 500 now if I have to redo it all later on.

Duals are a waste of money on a bronco, go with a 3" single all the way.

WHAT? Since when? I run true dual 2.5 inch from header back. I'm assuming the Edlebrock performer itake is a waist of money too?

No performance gain over what a simple easy to run 3" exhaust will give, therefor a waste of money.

I see your point on the HP gain but I still don't see it as a waist of money. I love the way my truck sounds with the duals but it is hard to run them on this truck. But I also run them short, right before the rear tires and no cat's or mufflers. I like it loud...

I want them to come out just in front of the rear tires, but with the way cops are around here, I have to run mufflers and cat's. I'm still a big fan of duals, the engine breaths better and sounds better.

In theory, yeah, a dual system will increase performance, BUT, not in a use able area for the bronco...

The Y pipe is your best bet all around... and honestly, sounds pretty good...

The y pipe will help to generate torque down low, you lose that with true duals.. Also for duals to work the pipes need to be equal length - something you can't do on a bronco.

Exhaust is just another part of the pump, and, it really needs to be "tuned" for its use..

Dual exhaust on the bronco is just extra pipe that gets in the way and extra weight you don't need. I did a lot of research when it came down to doing my exhaust, and I'm so happy I went with the 3" setup and it sounds amazing. Heres the build http://www.4x4preservation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201

I just put on a single 2.5" system with no cat and a Flowmaster 40 series muffler, exit out the side behind the rear wheel, sounds great.

My exhaust is stock, from the manifold down. For now, I'm going to go this way and put a single on there, but go 2.5 instead of a 3. I already have the muffler, but the rest I need some info on. If I do what boss did and cut the old cat off flush to the back of it, would a 2.5 pipe go on the y pipe? If not, I'd need an adapter from 3 to 2.5 (I forget the fractions needed to splice it all together with as little gap as possible). From there I could mount it where it is now, if I get a 2.5 version of the 3 mandrel bent tailpipe. Or is there a way to mount it where the exhaust comes out in front of the rear tire? I've heard both sides that it's legal and it's illegal, but I've seen it on a lot of trucks.
