Last Friday, driving home... There's a couple of long grades on the highway and as I'm going up the first one, the engine starts to sputter and cut off. I ease up on the throttle and it picks right up. I can't accelerate past mid-throttle, but up to that point everything is ok.
Now, remembering the condition of the fuel tank when I first got her, i suspect the engine is starved of fuel and the filter is clogged. Next morning I pick up a new fuel filter and replace it. the old one, I blow out and tons of gunk comes out. Bronco runs fine, drive to work Sat and Mon, no problems.
Tuesday, coming home, and its the same thing. Now I'm really worried.
When I first got her, the in-tank pump was all varnished and gunked up, so I dropped the tank, drained it, cleaned it, replaces the in-tank pump and sending unit. Replaced the filter at that time, too. this was in November.
So far, the only common issue has been driving home, at the same place, and with a gas tank that's only about a 1/4 full. The grade isn't that steep, so I don't think the fuel pickup is sucking air.
I really hate the Chiltons manuals... great for tear-apart, but unlike the Haynes, they have no section on troubleshooting. And I haven't been able to find a Haynes manual around here yet
Any ideas?
