Electrical problem

I few months ago I left my lights on, I had asked the parking lot service folks to help me witha a jumpstarts, and unknowingly they connect the leads backwards...the fuseable link burnt off, and after a macgyver move to get it back together it was jumpstarted just fine...unfortunatly after replacing the link, the battery mysteriously started to drain. The solenoid was changed out, and the alternotr checked...they were both working fine, but the battery contiued to drain, and I was left having disconect the battery when not in use...I figured a short had devoloped somewhere, and when two brand new headlights burnt out after a few minutes, I figured the voltage regulator and condensor needed to be changed, for added measure I changed the sparkplugs...but now it wont start??? the battery drains after a few failed attempts at starting...any thougths???

Sometimes when the starter is on its way out it developes a drain. A combination between that and/or a soleniod would be my guess

have you tried starting it while some one has there battery connected to yours? sounds like you need a new battery

yup, tried that the other night with no luck, could it be the carb? or is the starter to blame...like I said, it cranks (even with another truck hooked up) but only a fe times before it seems to drain the juice

i definately wouldn't pick the carb as the culprit, not yet anyway i think it's a bad battery, i am not sold on a bad part (i,e, starter) either becasue that is way to fast of a drain. Autozone tests batteries for free. get it tested and see what they say. if it's not teh battery, i am sure they can test the sulenoid but it's like a $5 part then test teh starter. i jsut can't phathom a started draining a fully charged battery in three tries. but i have been wrong before.

good points...I really didnt want to start getting after the carb if I could help it...the old lady is starting to harp about sellling it as is if I cant get it going...
