from my research on the $50 paint job, they have been using foam rollers.... they do use foam brushes for the hard to reach areas that a foam roller won't hit....

here's a site that has a list of materials needed, but don't mention the foam brushes that I've read others used....

http://rollyourcar.com/sitemap.aspx

I would think that using regular brushes would cause uneveness, but then again I haven't done it yet so I'm still reading all I can before taking the plunge and doing it myself....

here's some other links, in case you hadn't seen my other post that mentions it:

Oh yes im sorry i wasnt clear enough, missioncontrol said what i wanted to know... i mean like using the foam rollers can you paint this duplicolor's paint shop brand with the foam or do you HAVE to paint with an airbrush like what it says.. because on Trucks! they did a bronco build on spike tv, and they used this duplicolor and i was wondering if like the rustoleum you could thin it out with the mineral spirits and paint it on. cause it just has a lot more colors to chose from

I'm not familiar with duplicolor's paint shop brand... all my research has lead me to Rustolium.. I still haven't found a confirmation on whether you can tint theRustolium paint to the exact color you need and get the same results....

unfortunately the thread with the most information is pretty large and I haven't had time to read all the posts yet from thoers who have done it....

perhaps you can test the duplicolor's paint shop brand paint on a spare part and view the results before attempting your whole car... I am interested in any results you come up with... or anything else you find on this paint job technique.... I plan on painting my Bronc this fall before the cold weather gets here, but after the blistering heat of summer....

keep us (or at least me) updated.....

thanks

Im sorry I think im missunderstanding your question. you want to paint the fiberglass top with the foam rollers? It is a rough enough surface that you can probably get away with it. work fast and keep a light touch to blend in the roller streaks. I have successfully used the small black foam rollers to paint on vehicle letters on trucks to use as a base for the airbrush. it comes out like it was sprayed, of course the letters are only a couple inches thick.

If your looking to paint an entire vehicle with a roller, I cant help you there, never seen it done, dont think I want to either. why not just take it to macco or earl if you want something cheap. you prep it, they spray it. tell them to give it 3-4 coats of clear, when you get it home color sand and polish it and it would like you spent thousands on it.

the links I posted above have shown that painting a car with a roller can be done cheaper and still look good, but the downside is that it takes alot of work and patience.... if you are a do-it-yourselfer then it's a great project
