You dont NEED one, it just evens out the flow(tone) I dont have one and dont really think one is needed, if youre running cats you will be extremely limited on space...good luck!

Ditto, you don't have to have a X pipe. They are not really necessary for engines under 350 HP. However, since you are dropping a 475 HP engine in, you probably should have one and from what I read it would have a definate benifit to your HP delivery to the wheels.

The objective of a X pipe is to increase flow by reducing the effect of muffler restriction. By having a X pipe, exhaust flows better because the effective restriction of a muffler is cut in 1/2. The effect of this is to deliver more horsepower to the wheels. Since flow is one of the most important things in a performance engine, the larger the engine the more necessary the X pipe becomes. So basically you want to reduce as much back pressure as possible. That also means keeping bends to the minimum.

As far as the transfer case is concerned, you have two choices:

1. The least desirable for exhaust flow reasons is bringing both pipes down the right side of the truck and then after clearing the transfer case take the left pipe either back with the right pipe and exit both at the same location or take the left pipe back over to the left side to exit. The advantage of this is that a close X pipe can be done when the pipes are right next to eachother.

OR

2. Put atleast a 4" body lift on the truck and then the left pipe will be able to go strait back to the rear. Check out Freaks system.

Good luck,

:)>-

not to discredit seabronc but you dont need the x pipe. it jest balances out the pressure for a smoother flow, but if you just put bigger exhaust pipe in it would have the same effect. and then you could just run true duals.

Did I tell him he had to have one  or the reason they were designed in the first place and how he might run his pipes  :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Personally going with a set of jba headers and bassini Y pipe with 3" exhaust out the stock location will perform as well if not better then duals will. the purpose of an x pipe is for scavenging for the exhaust out more efficiently. an H pipe would work for balancing the flow. duals are best if they can be as strait as possible. so because your tcase is in the way and you would have many bends in the system i dont see the purpose in spending the extra coin. just have the single pipe tucked up nice out of the way to clear any trail obsticles

I'm sure I rambled and gave incomplete information plus mixed in a bit of my own preferences and philosophies. The point is that you need to pick up a couple of books and read about exhaust system design and make up your mind on what you want to do and what you think it will buy you, not install someone elses personal choices :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

The best and most efficient exhaust system is what you see on Funny cars, a short strait pipe on each cylinder that directs the exhaust away from the engine :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . You can't get away with that on the street, so you have to do something else. One of the best systems I have seen using duals and both sides of a Bronco is the one Freak designed for his, or perhaps something like Kemicalburns suggests. We can only give you "For What It's Worth :-" " info and then it's up to you.

Good luck,

:)>-

Hey I know this topic is way old but if I get a 3" body lift and just stick with 31's will that work for the exhaust?

he said I need a body lift for clearance if I want to run true duals and have the left pipe going straight back instead of curving around everything. And if I have a k&n FIPK intake and a bbk throttle body and a new intake manifold will 2.50 pipes be big enough?

You could do what i did and just run one flowmaster with duel exaust. Yes i would have liked to put true duals running off each header but i didnt have the time or money to sit and wait so i did it the easy way and it sounds pretty good. Good tone, nice and loud, and even pops when winding down on the RPM's not to bad for $300.

Speaking of duel exhaust, is it possible to put duel exhaust on the 300 I6? If so, will there by any benefits?

correct me if im wrong, but on an inline motor doesnt the exhaust come out on one side? and then i guess you could come off and split the exhaust...but yeah there is always a benefit as long as you do not overkill and have enough pressure pushing as to not get a reverse effect.

I'm new here. I have true duals with turbos and they're quiet. I have a single in dual out flowmaster and i'm looking for another so i'll finally have flows on it.
