Door hinge removal

I have removed the doors off my 71 Bronco by taking the pins out of the hinges. Can I unbolt the part of the hinge from the front door post? Is there a backing plate behind the post that is attached or will it fall down inside and cause a big project replacing it?

Has been a couple years since I had mine off my 68...
Had a hard time getting the bolts loose but the plate stayed inside...
