I'm trying to figure out a way to gain a little more ground clearance. Has anyone ever made a new crossmember for the tranny/transfercase to get rid of the 6"+ factory one hanging down? I dont remember how low the transfer case hangs down to see if this would help at all...but it was just a random idea floating around in my head. I havent really paid much attention to how its mounted under the truck...I need to go look at it in the morning.

I hate that crossmember...I keep getting hung up/dragging on that thing in the creeks around here.

isnt that a skid plate? The crossmember should be level with your frame

yeah the 87+ trucks have that skid plate that hangs down to protect the aluminum tcase. if you look at a pre 87 truck it wont be there.

Wow, I feel stupid now. I always thought that was all one piece. I assumed it was like the crossmember on my dodge ram, it had little "rails" on the crossmember that hung down pretty far.

yeah its just a piece that bolts to your frame in a few places. its there for a good reason but you could definitely get a better setup.

I was thinking about building my own. I was thinking about 1/4" plate molded around the T-case and bolted to the stock location. Just somthing performed the same but looked sleeker, and didn't hang down so much. But thats just an idea..

im just going to take two bars, maybe 1.5" diameter across about 6-8" apart and then right in the center ill bolt a plate. I hate taking all that junk apart when dropping the tcase and tranny. On my truck i have to drop the front tank skid plate to have enough room to pull the tcase back to drop it! you can imagine i found that one out the hard way under the truck holding the tcase up with one arm:)
