I have a 1990 Bronco II that has a massive cooling leak....coolant will pour out as fast as I put it in....have had a small coolant leak for quite some time....but always filled it up every couple of times I'd drive....This time my temp gauge was on half way between normal and hot...which obviosly is not working right because it was HOT!!! Ran it probably a little farther than i should have run it to the next service station and it was boiling hot and bone dry by the time i stopped...when i tried to refill it, water poured out as fast as i could fill it not under the radiator but on the passenger side right above the oil pan...nothing visible from top side...could not see what was right above allowing the water to leak...looked at bottom and top hoses of radiator and they looked good....could i have cracked something using luke-warm water and engine being that hot? anyone know what the source of the leak could be in that area? Any help is much appreciated!

Welcome to the Zone >

If it is happening without the engine running and it leaked before, it could very well be a freeze out plug that has rotted away or the water pump seals. If it is at a garage, why not have them put it up on a lift and check it for you.

Good luck,

:)>-

I have 87 Bronco ll. and have identical problem but of much lesser degree. I see small leak dropping from the head of the ouilpan close to the Torque convertor and above the starter. I started tracing the path but could not find any. Checked the freeze plugs, around the starter etc. etc. I thought it might be leaking through the heater core. I bipassed the core by connecting both hoses on to a small piece of tubing ( GI ******). It did not help. I then added collent leak stop bottle . The leak is minimal but still there. I am suspecting a minute crack on the block but it is hard see the entire block .

If some one finds a possible path, it would be very helpful. During the preventive maintenance, I even checked any coolent in the transmission oil but did not see any.
