I never had much luck with them slowing me down much. They will work to an extent, but I don't think it will do what you want it too. I tore up a couple of auto trans. playing in the mud, for me they just don't take the punishment that a standard will! (I am biased though I prefer a standard any day)

When I'm off road and coming down a steep hill, I will put the transfer case in 4 Low and the tranny in low, this slows me down enough so that I don't ride the brakes. I have not had any problems with this hurting my tranny or my engine.

I am runnin a 400 automatic. I rember the day I bought it. As I was coming home. The brakes went out and I drifted about 1?4 mile before I could turn back around and go back to my destination. Befoer I took off again, I was gonna EASE it up the road to where I was gonna take down to where I live. I PUT THE BRONCO IN 1ST GEAR AND 4TH LOW---THEN STARTED DOWN THE ROAD---------**** IT WAS LIKE FALLIN OUT A TREE. i HAD TO GO THROUGH THE CHURCH YARD BEFORE i GOT STOPPED-AND i NEVER HAD AN EMERGENCY BRAKE. Had a hard time cleanin my pants

In my experience, the C6 sucks for slowing you down on a steep hill. Like Johnny Reb said, it is close to falling out of a tree. I see it a a very dangerous trany for serious off road stuff. Riding the brakes can cause them to fail from over heating. I had one exciting ride down a very steep incline on a mountain road once and am not looking for that experience again. I have also read stories about people nearly getting killed in off road situations because of the C6 characteristics. If I did any serious off roading, I'd convert to standard shift.

That's my .02 on the subject.

I had a C6 in a car I used to race, it would compression lock with out a problem (drive shaft had the problem) it was shift kited.

This is the first truck I have had with an automatic, and it is bad at slowing you down a hill, real bad, so for real off road I would want a standard you have much more control. Riding the brakes heats brakes up and you are more than likely to lock wheels up wich is bad thing on a steep hill.

Personally after having the shift kit in a c6 already, I really doubt if it would help at all, this is just something the c6 isn
