I am a new and proud owner of a 71 bronco sport, 302. I just had my three on the tree converted to a hurst floor shifter and have a question....I have only had the truck for a couple of weeks and notice that the clutch engages at the 'top' of the pedal instead of the floor. I was told that when a clutch wears down the clutch pedal engagement rises to the top? Correct? or is thier an adjustment?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TY

There is usually some adjustment, but you are right about the indication. It could be either or both.

Good luck,

Try adjusting it first. There is a linkage that is under the driver floor pan that has a ***** adjustment. It has 2 nuts on a bolt that can either lengthen or shorten the engagement. You will have to play with that, one way or the other, and see how that is. I have to adjust my clutch about every 20-30k miles & I am working on 150k on this current clutch.

HUH..?

I always set up a clutch to function on the top....!! Why have to push to the floor..??

Engaging nearing the top ..., then fully engaged.., then 3/8's inch play....& stopping on the rubber bump-stop.

If it's working good..., no slipping or shudder.., then that's the way it was set up.

Local library (if you don't have manual) will guide you....

I appreciate that...I am new to this truck and used to engaging clutches closer in middle to floor, its more about comfort-6-4".....easier on the leg room....TY

BTW..,

Congrat's on your purchase...!

"....6'4".....easier on the leg room"

AH-HA..., now that makes a difference. stock seats.., aft. mkt. seats (right or wrong), seat placement/adjustment., & steering wheel (dish & diameter) all come into play.

Lastly., that "other pedal" is the same height as the clutch....

I would look into the above, & re-set the clutch last...

I'm 6'3" - glad mines auto! It's not made for a gigantuan (check spelling).

Seriously - if you want, you might customize your clutch petal. It is possible you could dissasemble and bend (slightly) downward, then reinstall. I'd use a vice, cutting torch and hammer. This may require some further adjustments so it works as mentioned above. In other words don't bend it down so far it hits the floor and doesn't engage. Just a thought! Good luck to your predicament and be glad your not 5' 4", not that there's anything wrong with being 5'4".

Keep ridin broncs!

There is plenty of adjustment, at least with my bronco, I like mine at the top, when I rock crawl I personally like the foot too the floor for full disengagement and there is still plenty of pedal for feathering of the clutch, but I am a np435 non sycro so its a drop it in and just barely touch the throttle and sit back and steer till you get over the rocks, Good Luck
