checking fusible links

ive been having problems with my bronco 2 not firing and have been seeing folks talking about checking fusible links to see if thier bad. How do you go about checking them, I never paid much attention to them and not even sure what thier for?

Fusible links are just a piece of wire that burns off like a fuse. You will usually find them on your starter relay. They have a small squarish piece of colored rubber on them and act sort of like a master fuse in front of a bunch of other fuses that split the power to various other functions. Usually if one burns out, you will have several electrical functions that don't work. They are not always connected there, for example my truck use to have two that were buried in the wiring harness. You can usually test them by pulling on the wire that attaches to them and see if it stretches or comes apart, you may also see a burn spot where it burned through the wire.
