i have a 76 with a stock 302 with a motorcraft 2 barrel which is oe i think but the placard is worn out. short trips go fine, but running it 20 plus miles everytime i have to slow down like getting off of the eway, the motor cuts out and it is harder than **** to start it back up. basically i have the hold the throttle to the floor and crank 7 plus times before it will fire again, and once i get her goin i have to really stay on the throttle to keep the motor runnin. even after letting it sit for 10-30 minutes, it is still hard to start up. normally no matter how long it sits, i can press the throttle down twice and it fires and idles great. i dont know a lot about carbs yet, but i'd like to be able to figure this issue out. i dont know if it is the electric choke heating up to much and keepin the choke closed or if i have a idle down problem, any suggestions and lessons on what to do what be great. thanks.

sounds like choke is sticking in closed position, or float is sticking or you may have a dirty or worn out needle valve. how old is fuel pump?, when was the last time the carb was rebuilt?

both questions i cannot answer, i have owned the bronco for 4 months. fuel pump looks newer, but hard to tell.

How is your eng. temp...? & is the gage correct.?

Could be a vapor lock issue.

Flooding would create dark/gray smoke fr. exhaust. (via choke or float)

Fuel pumps have a "weep-hole" to warn you they're failing.

----(however., a stuck check-valve would not warn you & cause low/no fuel press.) ---

If you want to learn 'bout your carb.., go to library., there's many books there that will help you.

If you carry a can of starting fluid.., next time it acts up... shoot some in the air inlet..if it fires., you're starving for fuel.
