I have a '94 Bronco that I cannot turn off with the key. I can start it up with ease, but when I go to turn it off the ignition switch would turn and turn and turn. Also, while the truck is running I can pull the key out and the truck will still be on.

I have disassembled the steering column as much as I can, and there is a white plastic rod that runs from the ignition switch where the key is - all the way along the right side that would connect with the circuit under the column.

I am not sure if the rod is suppose to be on pieces or two pieces. I cannot remove it. (dont know how)

Can any one give me a heads up on which piece is broken.

THANKS

You probably have broken the link that connects the rod to the key tumbler. That is a one piece rod and connects to the actual ignition switch on top of the steering column. If you pull up on the rod the truck should shut off. If you move the rod up and down, you should be able to feel it detente as it goes makes contact in each key position. check the whole linkage from tumbler to the ignition switch and make sure the switch is not loose. I is bolted on and shouldn't move. To adjust the switch you loosen those bolts and slide it. There is a procedure in the "How To" section for adjusting the position of the switch. If the tumbler is the fault it is easy to change as long as you have a key. Unfortunately the little coupling between the rod and tumbler is not that easy.

Good luck,

:)>-
