Hey guys... I'm trying to figure out what would cause my burning smell coming from my engine area.

It only happens whenever I seriously gun it... idle or in forward motion.

Not gunning it isn't an option, seeing as how I'm going to be mud dragging it (in stock class and will keep it for daily driving, it's just for fun to see where I stack up against other stock trucks at County Line Mud Drags.)

My first thought is that it might be a burning clutch... if automatic clutches can burn???

My other thought is that it might be redlining, but I really can't tell because I don't have a gauge for that... but it sounds like it shifts perfectly right before redlining, like you'd sweet spot a 6 speed when racing.

I'd like to hear what you think it is before I have my tech buddy look it over.

I need it fixed before the 13th of September so I don't stupidly ruin my transmission or gears when dragging.

It's my daily driver and I don't abuse it, I use it.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Do you have any fluid leaks? Maybe at high rpms some sort of fluid (oil, trans oil, or power steering fluid) is spraying all over your manifold which might be causing that burning smell.

have you checked your tranny fluid to see if it's burnt?

and you should have the rev limiter on your truck that won't let you rev it past 5200 rpm

Have you recently installed any new exhaust parts? I know when I put my new thermal headers on it had a strange smell that hung aruond for quite a while and got hotter smelling the hotter the engine got or the more I put the gas to it. Just a thought.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

I have noticed my tranny dripping very slowly.

RB, I'm putting some shorty headers in today, so wouldn't be that... but is that something to watch out for?

Miss Kitten, thanks. I didn't think it would red line but still wasn't sure.

You guys hit it right on the head.

I'm going to drop the tranny pan and do a service on it and change all the fluids and gasket.

It was burnt tranny fluid and it really needed to be changed.

Thanks again!
