When i bought my 86 bronco the guy told me that the drive train was out of a 91 mustang. i'm a beginer at this whole mechanic thing so as much as i love to tinker i dont know much about it. is there any way to tell for sure if the motor is from a mustang. the trans was bad anyway so i had one put in from my other bronco.

Assuming this is really a 91 5.0 mustang motor in my bronco can i put mustang performance parts on it?

on a side note if anyone needs parts from an 86 bronco i have about three of them.

You can put *any* 302 parts on there, doesn't matter what it originally came out of. Right off the assembly line the only real difference between the 5.0 engines was the cam (there were other smaller differences like the style of intake & such, car intakes sometimes hook over to the side due to lower hood clearances). If it's a Mustang engine the it's setup for horsepower instead of torque. If you're going to do any serious work to the engine then sure, I'd swap out the cam for an RV cam to get better torque out of it but you can go right ahead and order just about any 5.0 part you want and it will work. I haven't hung around with the guys in the go-fast crowd for a few years now so I'm not as up-to-date on what to look for specifically to spot an Mustang-sourced engine but I really don't see as it matters much.

Why don't you list some of the better parts in the "Parts For Sale or Wanted" section of the forum. Right now I'm looking for a A XLT radio Bezel with the oak color that has good tabs where the screws go.

Good luck,

:)>-

Dont get too carried away putting performance parts on that 302 . If it was out of a mustang it should have been a mass air EFI system the intake is lower than the truck intake and has one big hole in it for the throttle body . The mass air computer can compensate for changes in the cam and such . If they just used the mustang short block so your truck has all the stock speed density EFI controls you cannot change the cam far from the stock one the computer was preprogrammed with those values and it wont run very good at all if you get outside of them . The truck intake will have 2 hoses that come off the throttle body and go to the air cleaner . If its a mass air system it will have a mass air sensor between the intake and the air cleaner . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I *was* gonna say it would be worth noting whether he had the Bronco or Mustang processor but then remembered it's an 86' and should have been carb'd so chances are he has the entire pony package.

One more thing, if you REALLY want to know what the package you have came out of then dig out the computer. It's usually mounted behind the passenger-side kick panel (but in a transplant like yours it could have been stuffed elsewhere). Take a look at the processor housing and it will have a Ford sticker on it with a bunch of numbers. Refer back to this page here: http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=17 and match up the number on your computer to the list and then you'll know for sure just what you engine was pulled from. Wish I could help you more than that, let us know how you make out.

thank you all for all your help. the truck actually comes home this weekend from the shop with its new transmission. its been sitting in the yard for three years waiting for an implant. i feel like its a new born coming home from the hospital. i cant wait to learn all of its kwirks and issues haha. i plan on puttin a posi in the rear end in the near future so i'm sure i will have plenty of questions for you all when that time comes.
