Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I'm looking to purchase a vehicle. Ive always wanted a bronco since i was younger. My uncle used to have one and i loved going for rides in it, however i remember him putting alot of money into the upkeep of it. I remember him swapping the engine twice.

I plan to use it for travel to work and school. Work is about 3 miles away (usually walk it) and school is about 20 miles away (2hrs on the bus).

f-150's are probably the most common pickup truck there is(and the best looking[beaten by the f-350 super duty?]). So if i was ever to need a part i could find one for cheap.

And my uncle suggested me the Explorer.

I do plan to do a good bit of city driving. And a car is out of the question. :-& #036;

I've been reading for a few days, saw alot of good deals on f150s. I only have 3-4.5k to spend.

Thanks to anyone who can tie up the lose end for me.

Why is a car out of the question?

If you are driving only 200+ miles per week the gas on a Bronco or F150 will be bettdr than $60 and that is if you only drive to school and do not go anywhere else. If you are dead set on a truck you came to the right place to get pointed to a BRONCO, remember it is a real short bedded f150 at heart, but with better personality. If you can do your own work and do not beat on them to much they are not ridiculas to maintain.

I realised after the fact that I was posting on a semi biased forum. My family, mostly me and my brother aren't the smallest of people. I'm 6'2" aned my brother is almost 6'5". I've always felt cramped in a car.

However I've never felt cramped in a bronco or f-150. I would love to get a ford escape hybrid, but that's a bit out of my price range.

I also can't do my own work. im a computer tech and a bronco is as far away from a computer as you can get.

I wouldent mind the car if I could fit comfortably in it.

I posted this from my cellular , so sorry for any spelling mistakes..

Hey man, you came to the right place for advice, as all of your options are not cars. Honestly, the Bronco is the most logical choice. You can take the top off to have the same accessibility and hauling-room as an F150, with better gas mileage. With an Explorer, you gain 1 more seat, but you lose the hauling room, and you lose the majority of the truck-ness. Plus, the Bronco's have the upper hand over your other options when it comes to off-road capability. And if you go camping or the wife gets ******, you can put a blow-up mattress in the back when you fold the seat up you can sleep in there, with a cover or without. I'm 6'1" and I have absolutely no problems or discomfort in my Bronco. The good thing about Bronco's is their tough, and maintenance is cheap because they are simple and easy enough to work on. I bought a book for mine and I've been able to fix all the problems with it, with no prior knowledge, except for bent tie-rods (I nailed a stump at 50mph in a field; even though the rods were bent, the Bronco kept on going all the way to town and to the shop). You also have this website for questions, with experts in all things Bronco. Hope this helps.

If you feel cramped in a car you don't want an Explorer. My wife owned one and when I would get out of the Bronco and drive hers it seemed like a toy truck. If you are going to haul more than two full sized humans at a time the Bronco might be a bad choice for you because the rear seat is a tight fit if the top is on. Remember the Bronco was designed to compete with the Jeep albeit somewhat more practical than a cj/yj/tj Jeep it is still an off road sport truck. I hate to see it listed as a large suv on my insurance when it is truly an mpv.

Would i have trouble fitting four people in there? All my friends are no where near as big as i am, ill have to go see on in person.

Is it logical to hope to get one for $3000 and to put another $1000 of work into it? And have it in running order? I need this thing to last me some time.... I'm only 19 and this is going to be my first motor vehicle. So im pretty new at this all.

Hey man,

I bought my 95 bronco for $2400 and spent some money on some tires ($800), just to get it to pass inspection, and some other things but other than that and changing oil and small minor things it has been a great truck. I now want to jack my truck to the sky and do many other things to it and will begin soon. So my story short i spent close to $3400 or so on my truck as it is right now and it is road worthy and i have a few small issues with it but all in all i couldnt have asked for a better truck. Just a small warning, you will want to go bigger and bigger once you get a Bronco. I am sure many people will testify to that...

I just bought an '86 Bronco for $1500.00. It is all street legal and everything works, just passed emissions testing in Illinois before I bought it.

Now, I am planning on using it strictly for mud bogging so some of the 'legal' stuff doesn't matter to me but there are deals out there so you just need to look around.

I often ride five people in mine, but three of them are kids. It helps if the back seat riders are young and nimble because mounting the rear of the Bronco is a good sized step up between a rather small space between the seat and door jamb. Once back there it is big, big enough for any sized person. Heck, even big enough for O.J. Simpson and a but load of sports memorabilia!

I JUST GOT A 88 4X4 351 BRONCO FOR 20 BUCKS CAUSE THE GUY DIDN'T WANT IT IN HIS YARD. DON'T BUY THE FIRST THING YOU SEE, SHOP AROUND A LITTLE BIT. CHECK OUT IMPOUND LOTS AND TRUCKS YOU'VE SEEN STATIONARY FOR A WHILE, ASK PEOPLE IF THEY'D BE INTRESTED IN SELLING, THE WORST THAT HAPPENS IS THEY SAY NO. AND AS FAR AS REPAIRS, IF YOUR A COMP. TECH AND YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THIS SITE AND A REPAIR MANUAL A BRONCO WOULD BE A GOOD LEARNING TOOL.
