I was planning on buying 17x10 trailready beadlock wheels for my 76. When I called to order them the guy helping me said that I should run 15x10's. He said that they would do better offroad when aired down due to the bigger sidewall on the tire. How much more performance would you get out of the 15's over the 17's or is he giving me a line of S#$%? I plan on running 37" tires, I want performance but also a good looking wheel. If anyone has some pictures of this style of rim I would like to see them on a bronco.

Well, the nice thing about 15" wheels besides the softer sidewalls is the inner bead lip is there. In a larger wheel there is no bead, only a 45* slope and air pressure has to hold the tire to the wheel. I run TR bead locks and only the outside of the wheel is locked. The inside can come off but it rare. TR can bead lock both sides but its spendy.

I run 16.5" wheels and still run 38's. Size wise the larger wheel makes the tires look smaller. Not like that matters but if you want 17's get them. Most rock crawlers run 17's. Once they are aired down they do just fine. A 15" wheel might hug/form to the rocks but that could cause more distruction in axles, u-joints etc. Just get what you want.

Thanks for the Info. The guy that I talked to was kind of a ass about the whole subject. I tried to explan that I was new to the sport so I guess that made him feel like he should shoot down any ideas that I had. Where did you get your wheels from, I am in oregon and the only person that I can find that has those rims is the guy I talked to. I would like to take my time and money else where if I could get them somewere else.

Do you ever go over to http://classicbroncos.com?

They have a recent post on different beadlocks and pricing.

I went direct to Trail Ready and dropped off some old aluminum wheels I had. They bead locked them for $800. Its costly but well worth it. It would have been closer to $1000 or more if I got thri wheels. They are close to be so I just went there. I can see shipping the wheels to them is another expence to keep in mind. If you so get TR locks get the rock rings, they are way stronger and look sweet!
