about how much does a on board air system cost, and how difficult is it to install.

depends on what you want to do with it. I used to have a York compressor system on (I think my sig. says I still have it, but I had to take it off) with an air tank. If you want anything that will run an impact hammer, you pretty much have to go with the York set up. If you are looking for something to just air up or down then I think ARB now has an under hood that will do that, but it wont run tools and takes a while to do the job. Google Kilby Enterprise. They have a Jeep set up that might be adaptable and also google onboard air. You can do one for as much as a grand, but if you scrounge all the parts, you can do it for less, a lot less.

Thanks for the info. I never really thought about running air tools, my screen name says in all. Before your input I was just going to use it for tire pressures.

Warn has a new winch out, has a built in air compressor. I don't know how much it is but that would be the easiest by far

The new warn "swiss army" winch is advertised as a much better compressor than the ARB all purpose pump. It gives out enough to supposedly run tools, but for the money, the York setup will give you double the cfm and will run tools. If you are just looking for something to air up tires, the ARB is cheaper, comes with all the wiring harness & mounts where ever you want to put it.

How big are the compressors. Is there any way that you can mount in under the hood or the body without tearing it up while driving. I want to keep the stock look as much as possible but still have all the trick gear. Any suggestions?

they are fairly small and I know the regular ARB pump will fit under the hood. I haven't seen the newer one that is a higher out put but if you find a local 4x4 shop that is an ARB retailer then you should be able to see one if they have one and what the dimensions are. But my guess is that it will fit, just like the smaller output pump. They are both about the same size.
