Yes. The early Ranger and Bronco II were available with a Toyo/Kogyo 4-speed or 5-speed (main differences being that the 5-speed is slightly longer and has a .86:1 overdrive 5th gear). As long as you keep the fluid level topped up, they have always done well for me.
The 5-speed is the one I had rebuilt 3 times in a month, then finally sold the truck. 86-1/2 Ranger 4x4, 30K mi. Even Ford engineers didn't know why it would lock up between 1st-2nd gears.
I'm not too familiar with the Mitsu, but the only negative I've ever heard of with the Toyo/Kogyo is the input bearing seizing if the fluid level drops too far/for too long...
