I broke my rear axel while driving on the street, just on the outside of the outer brg. I run a detroit locker, in the rear. Everybody says it is just metal fatigue, any opinions? will post pics soon :((

If you're talking about the carrier bearing cap I have seen them break before but they had broke from hard launches on dry pavement. I've also seen the trac loc cover blow outwards breaking a bearing cap as well. Did you break the cap thats located on the same side as the ring gear?

im starting to lean towards running a 35 spine detriot in my 9" the guys at my local shop say to run warn shafts but it seems everywhere else i look that supirior is better? they also said that ox lockers and ox u joints are junk to get ctm instead. what about moser shafts? is a detroit too much of a pain on the street and long trips? i want to build mine right the first time. its gonna have a pretty stock 400 and 35 bfg with probably 4.11s and a 203/205. lockers front and rear. do the bearings get much smaller running a 35 spine shaft?

Iv'e heard the Warn's break easy, I think its the heat treating process. I run Currie Enterprises 31 spline shafts in the 9" with a detroit and no problems in 8 years w/ 38.5" SX's. If you can find some mosers they work great for the Dana44. They have larger ears so the u-joints don't tear them apart. I've heard the CTM's do better than the OX's also. The price seems to tell us all that too. Detroits work well off road but are **** on road. If I were you get a selectable locker in the rear so you can push a button or lever and its locked when needed. Road rigs should only have open or posi in the rear. Up front shouldn't matter much since you can disengage it. But again its alwars nice to have a selectable on both ends.

give em a look thats why the CTM joints are so highly rated besides the copper sleeves instead of bearings in the Joint caps.
