I am building a 9" out of a 67 Bronco. It originally had the 2.5 " drum brakes. I bought the wrong ones, the 1.75" drums and shoes.

The question is, should I just go with the 1.75" or try to get the 2.5"? I assume the 2.5" would have better braking?

Thanks in advance,

Yeah, you need to get the right ones. The brake shoes you got are 1" longer and are made for the big bearing rear end and you have the small bearing if your brakes are the 2.5" wide ones. Yours are 10"x2.5" & the big bearing are 11"x1.75".

Actually, they are still 10", just narrower. I have them installed but haven't put the rear in the Jeep yet. I just want to get the best stopping power.....

well if you are wanting the best stopping power, then why don't you think of converting to disc? The rear setup will cost you about $350 if you have calipers (I think they are 81-87 caddy el dorado) or $500 if you don't. That is a rough guess price from BC Broncos who make a kit for the 9". That is what I did and I would suggest going that route instead of dinking around with shoes. You can find out what calipers you need on BC's website and then go pull them off a junk yard car. Should cost you about $15 for the calipers. If you don't have them, they are EXPENSIVE!!!!

Yea, I hear ya. I am not a big fan of the Disc conversions. I put a SSBC (Stainless Steal Brake Corp) converson on my AMC 20 that was in my Jeep. Never got it working right. Even went to Pirate 4X4 for advice and nothing.....

It used the 87 Ford T-Bird caliper setup and I hated it. I am going back to drum's.....don't want to get burned on another $ 600 - $ 700 setup that doesn't work.
