hi guys I just bought a 69 bronco and I am working through the bugs, I noticed the steering was all over the place and when I got it home I noticed that when you steer the car the body itself will move about 6 inches to the side your steering! before the wheels turn! Ive never seen anything like it before and I was hoping someone had an Idea of what it might be?

I don't know if the early broncos had ball joints or king pins, but my experience is that my ball joints in my '90 were too tight. I replaced them and it made quite a difference.

Is the frame moving or just the body?

It is the frame and all it will all shift to the side you are steering before the wheels turn
That's the "TRACK-BAR"
The bushings are shot... or the track-bar drop bracket is broken...(if lifted)
OR... both...but it's an easy/cheap fix.

ok thanks for the info Ill check out the track bar im not very familiar with it besides the pictures on the internet, is there only one? and Im trying to get a idea of why it would cause the body to move while steering? Thanks for the help

The track bar attaches to the top of the axle on pass. side...& to a bracket on the frame on the driver side.
This bar centers the front end on the frame if you will.
Ea. end has two bushings, a center sleeve, & bolt-washers-nut.
If your rig is lifted.., the add-on drop bracket on the dr. side sometimes break.., but more likely the bushings are shot..!
In either case., the steering does exactly what you are describing...the body shifts left to right.
All the EB supply houses have these bushings & brackets.
You're doing fine.. & welcome ..!! B)

If it does have a drop bracket that is broken, I would scrap that and fix the frame there then get the track bar riser from Wild Horses. There is more torque on your frame at that point than there is on the axle. By lifting it at the axle, it also gives you the option of aligning it in 1 of 3 positions if you use the WH bracket.
Here is a picture of my steering linkage. The steering rods are completely different from a stock setup, but the track bar is virtually the same with the exception of the riser. You can see the track bar behind the top tie rod and what I am talking about with the track riser.

Ok I got new bushings and I am having trouble getting the Pass side bolt out, is there any secret? I have the nut off and have been pounding on the bolt with a mallet with no success, I cant get any wrench on the other side because the bracket is in the way.. any ideas??
The bushing sleeve & bolt sometimes meld together.
You can jack the frame up to change the tension., and squirt some **** all over the area.
Actually, leave the nut on several threads & use a sledge & a block of hardwood or brass to cover the nut.

Passenger side is a stud, the driver side has a bolt with a nut
