Body lift extentions

I just got a 3" body lift, simply because at the moment I can't afford a suspention lift (school's coming up, as well as moving) and I want a slightly more agressive look. I don't wheel as much or as hard as I'd like, and I wanted to do a 3" body and 6" suspention anyway, so...

My question is when I was looking around, I heard about steering column extentions and shifter extentions (for an auto trans). Anyone know where I can get a steering column extention, maybe online? It came with the shifter extention, but no word on the steering column. Also, from past forums and posts, I read these are pretty easy to do, but I'm still skeptical a bit. Are they as easy as they say? Thanks.

First off, *nothing* on a body lift is easy, it's all a pain in the a$$ which is a big part of why most folks want nothing to do with them. Every freaking part needs to shimmed, adapted, lengthened or bracketed, did I mention they're a pain in the a$$ ?

Anyways, since you've got one on there now and nobody here wants to read about the kid who's lifted truck went careening off the road, give the nice people at Borgeson a call. They make very nice stainless (not because it's shiney but because it's stronger than carbon steel & doesn't rust) extendable steering joint.

I've never run a body lift myself but I've used Borgeson joints on ALL my 78/79's to replace the factory rag-joint and on a few others just to replace steering joints that were blown out & dangerous.

Someone may tell you that you can get away with loosening up your current joint and slipping a "little bit more" of the shaft out & then retightening it, don't be a fool, people who do this usually wind up on the wrong side of the road (the side without any pavement) and they're exceptionally lucky if they *only* hurt themselvs. Body lifts are dirt cheap and sold as a fix-all way to just get a few more inches but it's never worth the lifetime of regret you'll have if *your* cheap lift is responsible for hurting some innocent soul. Do yourself (and everyone else with a modified truck) a favor and do this right or don't do it at all.
