I have a 67 Bronco with the 3 speed manual tranny.

When in first gear it is near impossible to get it to go into neutral, second, or reverse. The stick feels like it is binding, I can move it around but it won't go in anywhere. I have tried driving around and it still won't move.

The only way to get it to go is to manhandle it in the reverse direction and sometimes then I can get it into second. It does not feel good at all. Once in second it will go fine into third and reverse, but after I put it back in first it happens all over again.

I am supposed to go wheeling this weekend and would love a second gear.

Thanks,

matt

I had a 63 willy's that did that a little and I adjusted the cover plate and things lined up better and it went away. Maybe check the linkage out. Mine had a ball joint on top, and I suppose that could wear.

Yup, you have to adjust the linkage a bit. some just get under there and bend the rods a bit to get home. Then adjust it when you have the time. It will take some trial and error to get it right.

I had this problem on my '74, and it was in the collar on the colum. not too hard to replace, it was cheap and worked fine until I blew the 3 speed a couple years later. You know, an NP 435 could solve all your linkage problems...
