Ok all this talk about axles has caused me to read my own door tag. I have a 19 which is 3.55 gears. There problem I have comes because there are two, one was a 3750# open, and the other is a 3800# with a locker. According to my tag my axle is 3780#. So which one do I have? I know that when turning I get wheel cherp. Also I have wheels spining in soft dirt. My guess is that I have the locker.

Pick up the rear and support it. Spin one tire in the rear and if the other goes the same way you have a locker, if they go oposite then you have an open diff...

a locker? typically that means you manually lock in the axles together like by air, cable, something. If you have limited slip and you raise both wheels up they will turn opposite until enough torque is applied. Meaning you will have to turn one wheel back and forth constantly until there is enough slipage.

Jack one wheel off the ground, then get in a and put it in gear. If it tries to drive with the jack then you have a limited slip, if it stays there your open.

I feel silly, I didn't bother to ck your sig before responding so I'm not sure what year or equipment your rig has. On the other hand, maybe you didn't bother to list it in which case I'm off the hook :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

NOW, generally speaking a 19 means you have the same basic 3.50's that 90% of the Bronco Universe has. If your number is preceeded by a "H" then you have the limited slip axle, BUT since you didn't mention any sort of "H" in your post I'm guessing there isn't one on any of your tags so you're in the same boat as most other guys. Now, having said that know that even HAVING the coveted "H" doesn't really mean squat because a lot of those diffs have been neglected since day one and the clutch-packs just aren't what they used to be. I have an "h" code axle myself but the clutches are pretty burnt. Fortunately adding a bottle of dealer supplied friction modified made a difference and I'm pleased as punch. Some axles are more neglected than others so your mileage may vary.

i replaced the clutches in my 89 a few months back and it wasn't a bad job. I think it was $150 worth of parts including axle seals.

I did a little more looking and i cant find anywhere that said these things came with a factory locker. are you referring to limited slip? does your axle still have the little tag on it on the diff cover?
