if you do a lot of city driving and winter snow then auto hub

but if there not mucth snow where you livethen manuel hub

here why

i do about 150 to 200 km a day so driving condition can change fast and manual hub got to get out

to lock them

cant always drive 4x4 on premature wear like diff tranfer case and u joint

if you're talking about 4x4 bottons 2 wd to 4xd on dash or top mounted one no realy a problem

lot of ppl have them but main thing it shift motor to old and rust out then dont shift but about it

some time ppl blame ******* motor but not the case all the time

if auto hub stick or dont engage correct can blow tranfer case or tranms all blame on motor

any way push button look beter then floor shift for every day truck

but if you whant to do only 4x4 mud and off road

then manual hub standar tranms manuel shift tranfer case way to go

hope this help a little

driving ford sice 1978 all ford trucks small and big 4x4

and yes you can have to get top cover of floor pan where the center lump and need tranfer case and stick shift hole in carpet need boot couver make sure you get one for same model and drive axel size some newer type tranfer case may not fit

^Couldn't have said it better..

Everyones situation is different. Everyones truck is different.

The end of the day..the button is just a button. That button will go out the same time your radio button, or headlight button..get the drift?

Now yes, the elctric motor that switches from 2wd to 4wd is most likley to go out..but again, depends on rust, day it was built (Monday or Friday? lol) and when was it switched on? On hard pavement before slick snow, or slick snow so it can transfer with ease?

I have manual hubs, and electric button and never had an issue yet! And I use 4wd about 10 times a year.. 4 low about 2 times a year.

If your electric shift motor has lasted 23 years, and it goes out, I'd just replace it.

I agree w/BroncoJoe19, If you have a problem with the system, find the problem and fix it... Do u really want to climb under your truck in a snow storm or on some muddy skidder trail somewhere. I would however change the auto hubs to manual.
