Hey all, Today I had a prob with my 89 fsb 5.0/aod, 50 mi. into a 400 mi. round trip when I stoped at a red light it seemed like it did not down shift then the eng. stalled out. I put it in nuteral and tried to start it and it acted like it was still in gear (starter turned slow and truck lurched foward) Then I put it in park and it started right up. When the light changed I pulled into a store and left the truck running, got out and checked for leaks, loose wires but found none. Then I checked the fluid level and it read about 2" high on the dipstick. Last time I checked it (4-5week's ago) it was fine. It did not look or smell burnt (fluid).
When I tried to use reverse it went into gear but seemed like the brakes were locked down, then I put it in drive and it felt like it was taking off in second gear. I let it cool off a little then headed back home. It drove o.k. 55-60 mph @2500 rpm's in 3rd gear. o.d. and first gear stopped working but I made it back to town. On the way back there was no smoke or smell coming from it. I did a few searches looking for awnsers but now I think I'm more confused than ever. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions.
