ok I had 1400 dollars in repairs done to her and it runs fine but...

It wants to stall when:

1. First started up and placed into a gear

2. After driving and stopping at a light/sign/other

:((

It is doing this once I stop or am just starting to shift into gear I notice that my oil pressure drops to zero and I can feel it wants to stall so I give it some gas and the pressure goes back to normal and it runs fine. But I have to keep the gas down to get my RPMs to 1

It also dies or wants to when I step on the breaks to park or slow down really fast the oil pressure drops and it dies.

What is going on? Idle set too low? Any help is appreciated.

Mike

You should check the oil level first, from your description of the oil pressure it sounds like the pump is not picking up any oil when it sloshes around. It could also be worn bearings, slightly clogged oil pickup tube, etc. If it is a wear problem, you can get a few more years out of it by going to a heavier oil like 20W50 in the summer.

Does the stalling problem go away once the engine is up to normal operating temperature? If so, you probably have a carborator problems but then again you might have carb problems any way  . One would be the choke and the other could be the throttle kicker which is there to keep the idle up durring decelleration and idle a little when the A/C is on and also for warm start to prevent stalling.

Good luck,

:)>-

maddjkr, I thought you had EFI but now I see you have a carb onthe 87 5.8L. Check and double-check for any vacuum leaks to the front of the carb and the condition of the lines. I know there's a bunch of'em, but 2 or 3 are critical. Trace them to the ported vacuum switch on the front of the manifold, and you may also have one behind the carb. I found that on my 84, the two switches looked fine, but were cracked and leaking since they are plastic.

What model of carb is it that you had rebuilt? And what is the idle set at?
