I dont know if this is in the correct forum, but i have a 6-4 in lift kit on my 79 Bronc. I like the higher front end stance, but the rear looks a little squatty. I dont want anymore suspension lift, i worry about the driveshaft angles on such a short wheel base. 1. would a 2" body lift mess up the angles on my steering box, and how easy is a body lift to install? 2. If I would add and inch or 2 to the rear end, can I drop the transfer case with spacers or something to lessen the angle strain on my u joints. The higher the better, right. thanks, Jimmy

if the rear looks squatty, have you thought about buying new replacement springs?

yeaaaah, but i still worry about those driveline angles. I had an 82 blazer (back in the day) and the 6/6 lift tore up the u joints even when the transfer case was spaced. I dont know, i think a susp/body lift combo would be better for the Bronc as long as the body lift doesnt add additional/worse problems with the steering box. I know 3" bodylifts tend to stress, i just dont know if a 2" would? thanks, James

me personally, i dont like the body lifts because of what you said, the added stress, but people use them all the time. if i had to chose one it would be the 2".

Both my 78 Bronco and 79 F-150 had 3" body lifts installed by the previous owners. The P.O. removed the body lift on the 78 Bronco before I bought it, but the steering shaft rag joint was already toast. The rag joint is also toast on the 79 F-150. I feel that both are related to the increased angle fro mthe body lift. There is also no "kit" to raise the front bumper to mathc the body lines, due to the design of the frame horns. I made a couple brackets for the 79 from some 3" channel iron, but this is just for the stock chrome bumper. The 78 bumper has a winch mount on it, and prolly wouldn't work with a body lift.

AS for the rear driveshaft and u-joint problems, the P.O. also had issues with the 78, and it has no lift except for an AAL. It took several tries to find the right combo of AAL and shim to correct the pinion angle. The rear does sit higher than the front, too. JSM84
