Hi guys, Roadkill told me to go here to get an idea from you...

My 83 has a bad front pump in the trans . Is $5oo.50 too much to have it replaced????

Thanks, John Eversoll

My appologies, I assumed it was a fuel pump. Front pump in a tranny is a completely different story. If 500 is your actual guaranteed total then that is a good price. Be leery of scams, a popular scam from tranny shops is quote a price to hook the customer and then remove the tranny tear it down and find clutch dust in the pan. Which every tranny has, and then refuse to re-assemble without a complete rebuild. Take into consideration that a tranny shop will usually charge you more than that 500.00 quote just to remove the tranny and reinstall it with not even opening it.

Hey guys,

I got a PM from John Eversoll reference to a message I sent him that didnt make sense. I sent no such message, I hope he just got me mixed up with someone else. There is also the possibility that I got hacked or something, so I am changing all my passwords to everything I do on line. If anyone else gets a message from me that makes no sense, please let me know.

Now, back on topic. A shop in Killeen TX tried that same scam on me (dust in pan) when I went to have my trans fluid changed. Luckily I did not take the bait. $500 would be a good price for that work in my area also, but be careful of scams.

I wonder if it was the same shop I went to in Killeen- They told me $350 to do some work(this was 16 yrs ago)- I came out of the field and they handed me a bill for alot more- I paid the 350 and told them they coulkd take me to court for the rest- never heard from them again- but the trans failed about a yr later- in the past few years I've tried to purchase a rebuilt with a warranty and use my old trans as an exchange- unless you've got to have that trans back it alot faster turn around
